In the 1980s, WNBC was one of the most entertaining, personality driven radio stations in America, with names like Soupy Sales, Alan Comes, Joey Reynolds, Wolfman Jack, and of course, Don Imus & Howard Stern. The feud between Stern & Imus became legendary, and went on for decades. However, there was a time when Stern was new to New York radio, and he actually got along with Imus. In fact, Imus was a regular guest on the Stern show in the first year or two. There were even times Imus was actually live in the studio with Howard.
This air check from 1983 shows the camaraderie between Don & Howard. It also includes Howard’s early show open & theme song by The Double “O” Zeros, a punk band, who were fans of the Stern show.
(Show was recorded from Hammonton New Jersey, about 140 miles from new York City, so audio quality is less than perfect, but listenable.)
Now, a message from our founder…
Do you think you could spare a moment? Airchexx.com survives, literally, on the donations from people just like you. The ads you see take about 3 months to build up enough revenue just to get a small check. If you enjoy these archives, which so many out there do indeed rely upon, could you spare a little bit of cash? All of it goes to the hosting fees and miscellaneous costs of running this website. Thank you in advance.
