Jackson Armstrong, 1050 CHUM Toronto | 1967

1050 Toronto CHUM

Perhaps it was the PAMS signature jingles, the incredible music, the enormous audience or just the mystique surrounding this radio station. But for a time in the 1960s and 70s, no other station in Toronto touched its listeners the way 1050 CHUM did.

One of radio’s greats is featured on this worn but wonderful aircheck. The late Jackson Armstrong, complete with the Gorilla and the future “world’s fastest talking human” by the Guiness Book of World Records (1973), blows through this 12 1/2 minutes of Top 40 magic so fast that one can barely understand what he’s saying! Armstrong would slow down (a little) by the time he got to 64 KFI Los Angeles in the 1980s, but here, his jaws are going at light-speed!

I wasn’t surprised to read that Jackson Armstrong was named the “world’s fastest talking human” by Guinness.
