Jerry Blavat, WCAU-FM Solid Gold 98 Philadelphia | 1972

In 1960 when starting his broadcast career at WCAM in Camden N.J., across the river from Philadelphia, Jerry Blavat was already a local celebrity. Blavat was one of the teenage dancers on the WFIL TV show “Bandstand”— the local Philadelphia precursor to Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand.” This skinny little kid from South Philly, who uses the nickname “The Geater with the Heater,” has managed to get himself on air on many Philadelphia radio stations for more than 59 years, playing his mix of 50s & 60s hits. Jerry’s unique on air style was based on his radio roll model WDAS jock, Jocko Henderson. Blavat became the first white jock on Philadelphia’s R&B powerhouse, 1340 WHAT. Over the years he has hosted TV dance shows, and been on as many as 6 different radio stations around Metro Philly & South Jersey, at the same time. Since the 1980s, he also broadcasts a live dance party,  on several different stations, from his club, Memories in Margate. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the music of the 1950s & 60s.
He is one of the hardest working jocks in the Philadelphia area. As of this writing (Summer 2020), Jerry can currently be heard, doing different shows, on WXPN Philadelphia, WOND Atlantic City, WTKU Atlantic City, WVLT Vineland, WBCB Levitown, WISL Harrisburg. At almost 80 years old, he’s showing no signs of slowing down! This aircheck features “The Geater” Jerry Blavat on WCAU-FM, playing his special blend of Oldies, back in 1972.
