WMMR 93.3 Philadelphia – John DeBella & The MMR Morning Zoo – October 25 1985

WMMR has been playing Rock for Philadelphia since it’s Progressive Rock days in 1968, and it continues to be Philly’s top Rock Station. For many years, there was a Rock Battle in Philly between WMMR & 94 WYSP.

This 1985 aircheck features WMMR morning drive host, John DeBella & his MMR Morning Zoo. This show was very popular in Philly, until Howard Stern started simulcasting his morning show into Philly from New York on WYSP. Howard eventually took a chunk of DeBella’s audience, and made DeBella’s life a living hell. Things got so bad, that DeBella eventually walked away from the show. He eventually returned on WYSP, and eventually took over the morning show on Philly’s classic rocker, WMGK, until he retired in 2023. -Ellis
