They don’t say their names, but this is a funny break from the WYAT morning show… funny because they play the Contours a second time (someone forgot to remove the already played cart!), then the whole show goes downhill from there! Talkabout screwing up your concentration!
You get one break, worth about 2 and a half minutes of the “other” Oldies station. Yeah, and WTIX was Oldies too. What were they thinking?
What were they thinking? That Oldies was the most profitable AM format at that time. Cincinnati had FIVE oldies or oldies dominated AMs in 1987.
If you need names, the DJ is “Blair on the Air” and the traffic woman is the late Darlene Gentner.

As to what they were thinking, back in the 80s, Oldies really was all the rage, and done right those formats raked in big bucks. But as in everything else these days, bean counters have come in and decided that the only thing that advertisers need to sell to is young, well off women in their 20s and early 30s, whose boyfriends are wusses wrapped around the women’s little finger.
Men don’t count in most radio formats, neither does anyone over 50 (those whom we know to have more disposable income to spend). That’s what our young know-nothing consultants have told ad agencies and radio owners. So, Oldies is viewed as a format only listened to by those in nursing homes. Ha! What do they know? But, that’s what they were and are thinking.
Not to get on my soapbox about modern corporate radio and it’s continuing quest to dumb-down and cheap-down radio while campaigning the politicians and royalty collectors to put internet radio and any other threatening media out of business… naaa I wouldn’t mention that now would I…
I WAS A DJ IN THE EARLY 80″S WITH WYAT. MY SHOW NAME WAS “BIG LOU” AND I HAD THE “BIG LOU GOLDEN OLDIES SHOW” HAD A GOOD LISTENING CROWD BACK THEN.
