CKLW AM 800 Detroit – Ted Richards & Johnny Williams – December 1981

Ted “The Bear” Richards was one of the smoothest and longest running jocks on CKLW, Ted Richards started at ‘CK in 1972 and was there until the end of the *Big 8* era in 1984. According to the Rock Radio Scrapbook (//scrapbook.ca/), Richards spent time at WAPE Jacksonville,  before going to the Big 8. While at ‘CK, he worked mostly early-evening or late-evening shifts, with a couple of stints in afternoon drive. After CKLW,, Richards jocked at WOMC Detroit, WRQN Toledo, WTRG Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as spending time at Jones Radio Networks.

Johnny Williams was a disc jockey and imaging voice for CKLW. Johnny was a CKLW personality from 1968 to 1983. Later, he hosted the extremely popular “Pillow Talk” on WNIC-FM Detroit. He was also a program director and voice talent for several XM satellite radio stations. Sadly According to Johnny Williams’ family, he passed away from complications related to COVID-19 in May 2020. . -Ellis
