Curator’s Notes

Known on air as “America’s most listened to FM Station”, WXLO certainly was memorable in many ways, but was never bigger than it’s AM competitor, 77 WABC. In perhaps any other market, this would likely have been the number one station, however with the competition in the Big Apple, Middle of the pack is about where 99X stood for most of its existence. Semantics aside, 99X was indeed memorable and loved by many. Just the list of jocks heard on this composite which spans three broadcast days is enough to evoke memories!

You really should take 45 minutes of your time and listen to this all the way through. Miss a minute and you miss a lot!

For me this would have been either Regents Week or finals as I completed 10th grade. It was also a week before I turned 16 and got my learners permit.
