WBSB B104 Baltimore – Brian & O’Brien – September 1986
In June 1980, Top 40 formatted WDJQ-FM Baltimore, became WBSB, using the handle “B-104”. B-104 was one of Baltimore’s top-rated FM stations during the 80s and was home to many personalities, including “Brian and O’Brien” one of Baltimore’s most popular morning drive time shows, Glenn Beck, Pat Gray, Ken Merson (The Merson Person), Willie B., Gary Murphy, Sean Hall, Tom Gilligan, Kris Earl Phillips, Ann Duran, J.R. Russ, Lisa Kay, “Downtown” Billy Brown and Brian Carter.
Throughout the 80’s, WBSB established itself as one of the top-rated stations in Baltimore. By the early 90’s, the station had hit on hard times, as musical tastes were changing. By February 1992, B104 was shelved in favor of “Variety 104.3”, with a Hot AC format.
This aircheck features the popular morning team, Brian Wilson & Don O’Brien, on the air, back in 1986. Brian came to B104 after leaving WABC New York, and was teamed with Don O’Brien, who had come from Washington’s WASH-FM. The duo put on an entertaining show, but I had often heard some of the behind the scenes friction may have made the on air antics a little more interesting. -Ellis
