WAMO FM106 Pittsburgh – Brother Love (Ken Reeth) – 1968
In 1956, AM 860 WAMO, launched an R&B format to serve Pittsburgh’s African American community. WAMO picked up an FM simulcast in 1960. The full time AM/FM simulcast lasted until the late 1960s, when the AM continued to crank out the R&B hits, while the FM did R&B, Talk, Oldies, and even Underground Rock. Over time, WAMO-FM became an Urban Contemporary station, while WAMO AM specialized in Black news, talk, classic soul music and gospel music. After a station sale in 2009, WAMO AM flipped to a religious format, and WAMO-FM’s calls moved up and down the dial, from 105,9, to 106.7, to 100.1 to 107.3.
This recording features Ken Reeth as Brother Love, doing an Underground Rock show. Show also ran on some of WAMO’s sister stations. 1968 -Ellis
