Career Spotlight: Pat St. John

Pat St. John WPLJ

Sent in back in 2003 by our first, biggest contributor, Matt Seinberg at bigappleairchecks.com, here’s a great air personality whom Matt was proud to strike up a friendship with.

Pat St. John had a great career which spanned several decades and different formats. Longtime New York listeners who remember Pat at WPLJ and WAPP would be interested to hear him on Top 40 giant CKLW Windsor, Ontario Canada. Listen to the Bill Drake, Pat St. John Top Hour Legal ID which opens this 35 minute composite!

There’s a LOT of Pat doing Album Rock on WPLJ.

And you’ll hear, in parts, the WPLJ Montage. Apparently, WPLJ used short parts of the montage in its on air promos. Very nice to hear again.

WPLJ 95.5 New York, circa AOR Era

Pat St. John is one of those jocks who could and can do ANY format and sound great. He is a true communicator, interesting, topical, and in this webmaster’s opinion, one of the all time best jocks in New York. And there have been so many great jocks over the years.

One other thing you will notice, about mid-way through this Career Composite, is the sharp contrast between WPLJ the AOR station, and WPLJ the CHR station as “the Power Station”. Pat St. John successfully bridged the gap and worked both formats before moving to 102.7 WNEW-FM.

Then, if all that Rock and Top 40 wasn’t enough, Pat ended up at WCBS-FM Oldies 101.1, before the Jack-FM ‘interruption’. Proving again, that the best talent can work any format to success. Pat St. John sounds great no matter the format or station! Nothing illustrates this better than Pat on 540 WLIE doing a TALK SHOW! Few jocks manage to cross the bridge between music and talk. But, the show Pat does is a special one, all about music.

Enjoy this slice of one of America’s great Air Personalities, Pat St. John!
