Curator’s Notes:
This aircheck came to us somewhat unscoped. It’s a somewhat strange aircheck, in that the music is not what I’d consider true Top 40 fare, but considering this was three days before Christmas, perhaps WCFL, as some other stations ESPECIALLY back in 1970, toned it down for the holiday season. Compare with similar airchecks from stations like WLS and try to compare.
This aircheck is living proof that radio stations indeed, DID, actually play David Cassidy records!
Thanks to Contributor Daniel Coulombe for sending this in, and Paul Christy for making this recording happen (as we understand it from here). Thanks one and all!
If you haven’t done so yet, please consider a donation to help cover the cost of bringing these classic airchecks to you. All it takes is $20 from everyone, and Airchexx would be fully funded for months to come. Thank you.
Clark Weber was as smooth as they come. Refreshing to hear his pure talent.
this was the underdog in the 3rd largest market in north America they cut the WLS audience in half almost overnight…some say a labor dispute between ABC and the Chicago federation of labor…
Date on this aircheck should be Dec. 22 1971
