WJFK 106.7 Washington – Don & Mike FINAL Show – April 11 2008 – Radio Aircheck (Part 1)
For over 20 years, the team of Don & Mike were a force on the radio in the nation’s Capital. From December 1985 through April 11, 2008, the pair performed their zany radio show, first on the WAVA Morning Zoo on WAVA, then they took over afternoon show on 106.7 WJFK. In addition to Don & Mike, news was provided by Buzz Burbank, & Robb Spewak served as the show’s intern. The show featured Song parodies, comedy bits, games, and lots of listener phone calls. In the later years, Don’s wife Frieda became a big part of the show. The show drew a pretty large audience, and eventually became syndicated around the country.
Sadly, in 2005, Don’s wife Frieda, lost her life in a car accident. The show went on for a few more years, but after losing his wife, Don’s heart was not really in to the show. In addition to that, Don was unhappy with some things going on in the broadcast industry at the time, so he left the program. The show continued with the remaining players as the Mike O’Mera Show. -Ellis
