John Jacobs, 106.9 WWVV “The New Wave – Adventure Radio”, Bluffton SC | February 2, 1999

106.9 Savannah Bluffton WWVV WUBB The New Wave Adventure Radio Bob-FM

Recorded in 1999, we join the last few minutes of Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80s show. Its one of those syndicated things that plays on weekends. Note, the ‘nbgradio.com’ web address given out by Blackwood is not in use – it leads to buydomains.com. At 10am (in this aircheck), John Jacobs takes over.

WWVV markets itself here as “The New Wave” and “Adventure Radio”. The station is put together with sweepers which lead the listener to think this is a CHR station, but in reality it is the then-new “Modern AC” format which features a lot of Alternative songs which have crossed into the Billboard pop charts. It would not surprise me if I researched ownership to find out it was owned by Entercom (they took the country station I worked at in 2000 Modern AC).

The audio is excellent, very little processing was done to restore this from the source cassette, except to scope out the music to comply with RIAA rules.

Today, 106.9 is Country WUBB, “Bob-FM”, and still serves the greater Savannah GA area. Click the logo below to go to the station’s official website.
