Radio Station: Golden 98 WCAU-FM Philadelphia

Frequency: 98.1 MHZ

Format: Oldies

Golden 98 WCAU-FM was one of the first Oldies stations in the U.S. It was automated it’s first few years, and by 1973, the station had live jocks. The Oldies format lasted until 1976, when the station flipped to Disco. This aircheck features “Long” John Wade, who spent time on air on WDRC in Hartford in the 1960s, before moving to Philly, where he was on air at WFIL, WIFI WIBG, & WCAU AM & FM. Long John also spent some time on air at WCBS-FM New York, NY. Long john was always brief & clever, using lots of wordplay in his air work as you can hear in this short aircheck.  -Ellis
