Murray Kaufman, known to his many listeners as *Murray the K*, was an influential New York City playing Rock & Roll during the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. During the early days of Beatlemania, he frequently referred to himself as the fifth Beatle. Murray spent time on air in New York at WMCA, WMGM, WOR-FM, WKTU, and WNBC, but he was best known for his 7 year run at WINS, from 1958 to 1964. Murray also did a short run at 1050 CHUM in Toronto.
Murray was also remembered for the big Rock & Roll shows he put on, featuring many of the big recording artists of the day.
