In 1985, Howard Stern, and his crew were fired from WNBC, as they were near the top of the New York ratings. It’s no surprise they were quickly scooped up by New York’s WXRK, 92.3 K-Rock. Howard did the afternoon show on K-Rock, as Jay Thomas hosted mornings. In a short period of time, Jay left the station, and Howard moved to mornings.

In less than a year, Howard broke new ground by hosting his morning show out of New York, into another city… Philadelphia. Nobody at the time knew for sure if this dual city broadcast experiment would work. It did! and in a short period of time, Howard had the top rated show in Philly!

This aircheck features Howard in his first few months in Philadelphia. He spends a bit of time discussing the Mary Beth Whitehead / Baby M case. If you don’t know about the case, you can read about it here. -Ellis
