Bill Mack, “The Midnight Cowboy” was a texas radio legend! For many years, Mack was best known as the host of The Country Roads Show, (later U.S. 1 Trucking Show, and later still, Midnight Cowboy Trucking Show) the overnight country music show on 820 WBAP in Fort Worth. Mack’s show targeted long distance truck drivers, who traveled during the late-night hours. Because of WBAP‘s clear channel signal range at night, Mack’s show was heard over most of the continental United States. Mack hosted a number of syndicated Country Music shows, and even spent years on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. Mack was also a songwriter. His best-known song is “Blue,” one of LeAnn Rimes’ biggest hits. The song won Mack the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1997.
Before all of these achievements. Bill was a DJ in the small town of Witchita Falls, Texas, at 62 KWFT. This 1957 KWFT aircheck features Mack from his early days. Sadly, we got word that Bill passed on July 2020. – Ellis
