Brian “The Cannon” Bannon, 92.1 WLNG Sag Harbor | July 7, 2017
It’s quite rare when we at Airchexx feature a current aircheck, but this time we made an exception. The occasion for this recording is a visit to the station by broadcaster and radio historian Scott Fybush, and a small entourage of enthusiasts who write about radio. As Fybush recently wrote on social media, “There’s only ONE WLNG”. Indeed, while there are a few remaining radio stations still playing music from the 1950s and early 1960s, there is none other which has maintained the same format, the same on-air presentation and music since it’s sign on in 1965. WLNG is a throwback to an era where the major station’s of the day – most of which were on the AM dial – sounded exactly like this. Reverb, back-to-back PAMS jingles and a playlist which they boast on air as being well over 2000 songs.
Most of the visitors to this website are radio geeks and the vast majority know of WLNG, it’s storied history and the commitment to community service. Indeed, there is only one WLNG, and you are invited to listen to this telescoped half hour for a wonderful trip down memory lane!
