“This must be Elton John… I can tell because there’s confetti flying all over the place…”
There’s probably never been a jock more suited to be on WABC around 1968-72 than Dan Taylor. Except that DT was a pre-teen in those years and even if he wasn’t too young, he would have been mistaken as Dan Ingram’s clone…
The Time Machine was the brainchild of then-WNBC PD Dale Parsons. He and Big (Axel) Jay Sorensen put together the best re-creation of the greatest Top 40 music station on Earth, and in some ways, came off sounding BETTER than the original – if that’s even possible! Polished like glass, funny as hell with one-liners every break and a playlist of the greatest music ever aired on AM radio, The WNBC Time Machine was the best Oldies format ever done. Our hat is off to Dale Parsons, who totally understands the ‘monster’ he created and had big plans for, had not General Electric (“we take good things from life”, as Parsons quipped in a facebook video with Joey Reynolds in the Fall of 2020) purchased NBC and decided to sell the station to Emmis – who in turn shut down WNBC so it could move WFAN from 1050 to 660 later that year.
Dan Taylor started in New York city in the late 70s at 1050 WHN when it was New York’s ONLY Country station and moved over to WNBC when WHN flipped to Sports WFAN. It seems, at least in New York City, all things radio are connected in some absurd way. Dan Taylor was last heard in New York at WCBS-FM until very early 2020.
We have attempted to contact DT for our re-creation of the WNBC TIME MACHINE on our sister Classic Hits station, HitOldies (hitoldies.net) but have had little luck. Someone out there probably knows his contact info. The date for this upcoming (as of this writing) event is March 5, 6 & 7, 2021. Former WNBC Time Machine personalities may contact me for more information on how to participate – email@example.com
