This station was somethin’ else! WAVA was Washington’s hit station for about 7 years and during that time they did plenty of innovative and creative things on the air.
Sadly, it all came to an end many years ago when the station was purchased by a religious broadcaster and turned into a 24/7 preaching outlet.
Return with us to 1985, and this slice of DC radio history with Don Geronimo on All-Hit 105 WAVA!
Everyone, of course, know that Don Geronimo is now one half of the infamous “Don & Mike Show,” syndicated to about 50 stations nationwide by Westwood One. They started their show later in 1985 as the “WAVA Morning Zoo.” The character of “Sol” is actually Mike O’Meara, the other half of D&M. Both Billy Reed and Frank Murphy (heard on this aircheck) have been involved with D&M at some point during their nearly 20 year run.
please, please, please, come back. Please.
so much talent, my favorite thing he does is when he says “hello” after they say Don Geronimo and before they say WAVA, love it
I would like to know the name of the song that comes after the “Miami Vice” theme song. Sounds great…All Hit 105.1 WAVA, a historic station with tons of memories.
For Kelly: The song was “Hurts To Be In Love” by Gino Vannelli, from the album “Black Cars”. It peaked at #57 on the Hot 100, but did better in Canada where it hit #14.
