KDIA 1310 Oakland – George Oxford – February 22 1963

For decades, the call letters KDIA were synonymous with soul music in San Francisco. From the 1950s, through the 1990s, this little 1,000 watt signal, was a giant with fans of R&B music. Eventually the station raised it’s power to 5,000, and it really started to cook as Lucky 1310. Some of the legendary names that worked on air at KDIA include George Oxford, Rosko (who later moved to NYC radio), Bob White, John Hardy, & Belva Davis, who eventually moved on to television at KPIX-TV. The station also helped launch the career of Sly Stone, who was on air at KDIA in the mid-1960s. It was an influential R&B station.

This aircheck features George Oxford who spent many years on wake up duty at KDIA in the 1960s. -Ellis
