By 1985, WNBC was sinking in the ratings. Just two years prior, in 1983, WNBC was the #1 hit music station in New York. That was before Z100 came along. However, in 1985, WNBC was trying very hard to maintain a personality-based hit music station. In your curator’s opinion, this is the best that WNBC ever sounded in the Rock era!

The late Don Imus is heard doing what he did best. He’s irreverent, he insults everyone, and he’s FUNNY! Imus had to play three songs per hour. Even saddled with that, Imus manages to weave in funny bits, N-Copter reports (from Roz Frank) and news reports. Programming note: This is one time where Charles McCord is NOT in studio doing the news. Jim Ire is the anchor. Frankly, I don’t remember him on WNBC or at ANY station, for that matter. Someone knows his career highlights and we would greatly appreciate your comments (below this post) if you know his whereabouts or career.
The audio quality is very good. The only thing keeping this one from 5 stars is the background tape hiss. I tried some noise reduction but it left those irritating digital artifacts. So, it was left intact.
Listen for two produced bits. Two newscasts. Three telescoped songs. And, a solid 30 minutes of Don Imus.
