November 16, 2017, was a sad day for music lovers in Los Angeles. It was the day Adult Album Rock formatted station KSWD “The Sound” 100.3 FM went off the air. The station had a wide music playlist, by today’s standards, and featured legendary air personalities, like Uncle Joe Benson, Cynthia Fox and Rita Wilde. Entercom was forced to sell the station because it was above the station cap fopr Los Angeles. Entercom sold 100.3 to EMF below market value, because wanted to make sure that the new owners did not compete with existing CBS/Entercom stations as the two companies merged. After playing The Beatles, “The End,” Andy Chanley, the first DJ to be heard on The Sound almost 10 earlier, signed the station off, followed by silence and one of the most awkward transitions to a new format I have ever heard — including dead air. The new station signed on with new calls, KKLQ (Calls from the old Q106 San Diego), and ran K-Love network programming.
