Maudner in the Morning; 930 CJYQ St. Johns, Newfoundland | September, 1979

930 St. Johns CJYQ Radio Newfoundland Q Network

The reason that cow doesn’t have any horns is because it’s a horse!

930 CJYQ at this point in time has been around for about a year. It had been purchased by Stirling. The station had an Adult Contemporary feel to it but was definitely a community (In this case, being the flagship of the “Q” Network) oriented station. In fact, CJYQ positioned themselves for a time as “Radio Newfoundland”, serving the entire Newfoundland (and Labrador) peninsula.

This begins at the tail end of a newscast. The newsreader didn’t give his name but simply says “News is next on your Q-System Stations when it happens, first with the news”. That’s it, and the station goes right into music from there.

Thank you to Contributor Daniel Coulombe for this rare, if not a bit short, treasure!

I cannot find any information about Chris Maudner, at least that’s what it SOUNDS like to my ears. He sounds like a very capable morning man, with a few good stories to tell. He does so on this aircheck as well.

Today, CJYQ is still the station’s call sign, however, the format is Country.  The station is branded “Kixx Country” and still feeds a network of stations (mostly FM) throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
