Contributor Jay Sawyer sent in this sample of the old WWID “Wide 107” from the Atlanta market. We’ve determined the date to be 9/5/82, based upon clues in this very short but excellent quality aircheck.
This station is now an All-News outlet, branded “NewsRadio 106.7” with the call letters WYAY.
WWID became WYAY (Y-106) home of longstanding morning man Rhubarb Jones, a great American and Georgia Radio Hall of Fame inductee. Out of radio now, he’s a Distinguished Lecturer, Department of Communication Director for Special Projects at Kennesaw State University. Yes…he’s a Distinguished Lecturer….it says it right on his business card. I think he was morning man on Y-106 a little longer than Gary McKee was at WQXI. Man, Atlanta radio is lifeless with out those two guys !
