There’s not much information available about this incarnation of 92.5 in the Canton market, but apparently, the WZKL call letters were taken in 1992 as a result of a lawsuit brought about by a competing radio station. The former and current call letters were WDJQ and the “Q92” slogan was allegedly getting Arbitron (the then ratings-service) credit for listeners who, according to the suit, were tuned into the ‘other’ station. Perhaps there are some listeners in the Canton area who know more about this than I.

The format heard on this aircheck is technically “Modern Adult Contemporary”, although it has been sometimes referred to as “Adult CHR”. Modern AC was a popular, new-rock format that was compatible with Adult Contemporary demographics in the 2000-2003 timeframe, but the format tended to burn itself out. Shortly after this was recorded, the station managed to get the original WDJQ call letters back and referred to itself as Q92.5 while returning to mainstream CHR.

This is a recording of the morning show of Jim Shanow, the show host (spelling?) and Cathy Hogel, his sidekick and news person. It was recorded between 7:10 and 7:55am and is ‘scoped down for presentation.
