Another step in the evolution of WPLJ 95.5, at the time of this aircheck known as “Power 95”. For a time, ABC corporate actually changed the calls to WWPR, but it’s still ‘PLJ here. Notice the “WPLJ New York” Legal buried in a stopset.
Jim Kerr is a capable morning jock, and this, thankfully, is still a time before high-powered morning shows with foul language and sexual innuendos. Kerr is entertaining and this is very much a music-oriented morning show. We’re sure you’ll enjoy hearing about the events of the day – two full newscasts are included along with New York City commercials of the day.
This is in INCREDIBLE, STUDIO QUALITY…. It sounds good enough to have come right off the board, but we know this is off a perfectly tuned FM receiver. Long before HD radio came along this proves there was nothing wrong with good-old analog radio!
If the Jim Kerr aircheck is ‘studio quality’, I would hate to hear a shitty one.
Those were the days of POWER 95. I woke up to Jim and Shelli back when I was in grammar school and always looked forward to the dirty joke segment at 20 minutes past the hour every day. Yep, I remember when Phil Simms did his Friday segments too. This was back when Top 40 radio was still going strong.

Oh my gosh–do I remember the days of Fast Jimi Roberts on ‘PLJ in the late 80’s! š Remember on Saturday nights they had the syndicated show “Party America”? I remember listening to Linda Energy back around 1988-89; I think she was on in the late evenings. And I think Hollywood Henderson (was that his name) came on around 1989 maybe. I’ll never forget that sad day in June 1989 when Jim and Shelli left ‘PLJ. Mornings were never the same again. They wound up on 103.5 I think, which was a country and western station I think? The replacement for Jim and Shelli–I don’t even remember who it was; I think his last name was Haines or something. It’s all a big fog to me now. But hearing that commercial on this aircheck for Nando wine–what a flashback! They also used to always air commecials for Strawberry clothing store “Have you shopped Strawberry today?” By the way, the date of this aircheck is Friday, November 20, 1987. I checked the episode listings for Miami Vice and the ep Shelli was referring to aired on that date.

I grew up in the 80’s listening to WPLJ..loved willie b good and Bobby Valentine….Me and Candee Fresh!!!

I’m sorry, but that Channel 2 spot on memory loss was really stupid. This is why news people should never attempt humor because they suck at it. only talk radio hosts can get away with humor like that.
