Dick Summer, WBZ 1030 Boston | August, 1964
Often times, we obtain an aircheck and then the person featured sends in a better copy. Such was the case with this. The original copy was sent in way back in the first year of this website’s existence. Then Dick Summer himself sent this much better quality recording in a few years later. So, here…
Snapshot: WLDI “Wild 95.5” West Palm Beach | March 27, 2004
“The Palm Beaches Hit Music Station” – Wild 95-5! The slogan that gets repeated over and over and over. But isn’t that the whole idea? This is CHR radio for West Palm Beach and the whole South Florida Coast. Its NOT all Hip Hop and R&B, as Alternative and Pop are represented quite well in…

Pete Stevens, 104.5 WXLO Fitchburg/Worcester Ma. | May 10, 1998
The similarities between WBMX “Mix 98.5” Boston and 104.5 WXLO out in suburban (Fitchburg) Worcester were striking. Both stations were Hot AC formatted, with the same blend of soft alternative, pop and 80s/90s gold music, and virtually the same on air approach. WXLO was consulted, at least for the second half of the 1980s and…

Chicago CHR Wars 2 – “B96” WBBM-FM, “Z95” WYTZ & “Q101” WKQX | 1991
Part 2 of Robyn Watts‘ enormous contribution features the three hit music stations that Chicago sported as the 90s began. This is ALL CHR, and only ONE of these stations is still around in the same form it was back in 1990. The way this was put together, we get a couple of minutes with…

QuickCheck: J. R. Russ on WAVA Arlington VA | 1985
Longtime contributor J.R. Russ fits right in on this powerhouse CHR station. It’s vintage 80s on one of DC’s most legendary 80s stations! Who doesn’t remember WAVA? Ok, plenty of young people forgot. Chris Taylor would show them how it’s done, but he’s in Memphis. This is short, but memorable. And J.R. is GREAT here.
J.R. Russ narrates a WBUX Doylestown PA, Sales Demo | 1990
Used as a sales tool, this demo for WBUX 1570 AM, Bucks County, PA is well produced and does get right to the point, using a few air samples and a description of the station’s live, full service features. The format seems to be Top 40, and if so, would have been one of the…
QuickCheck: J.R. Russ on 1230 WECK Cheektowaga NY | Undated
Here’s a very young J.R. Russ on Buffalo suburban WECK. The recording is distorted, probably due to the receiver being tuned slightly off frequency. It’s interesting to note that this station, while likely not trying to compete with then powerhouse WKBW, is playing some of the same music. WECK is still around today. RadioTime.com lists…
J.R. Russ, last night show on WTRU Muskeegon | Undated
For his final act (literally), new contributor J.R. Russ is heard doing his finale on WTRU. Here’s another old-line AM Top 40. This one sounds like it’s from the late 70s sometime. 6 minutes, scoped, in glorious 10k wide AM mono. For our listeners, what frequency was this and is the station even around these…
