“Easy” Wendahl, 730 WPAL “Power 73” Charleston | April 6, 1996
The audio quality may not be the best, however, this is an historic aircheck from the standpoint that I don’t think there’s a recording of WPAL Charleston out there anywhere, and it’s yet another AM station lost to the ages.
Carl DeSuze, WBZ 1030 Boston | August 8, 1963
Featured here is Carl DeSuze, and toward the beginning of the tape, a full newscast reported by Morton Dean.
Curtis W., 13 WAVZ New Haven | October 3, 1978
Curtis W Hansen didn’t use his last name on 13 Waves or KC101-FM. His name is legendary. Best known for putting WEBE 108 on the air, Curtis is heard here doing the night show following Floyd Wright. It’s very short, just over one minute in length. Aircheck Courtesy of Contributor Bob Gilmore
Floyd Wright, 13 WAVZ New Haven | October 3, 1978
Listen to this and I think you’ll agree. Friendly Floyd was remarkably consistent and sounded very much the same from his early days on the air, to his final days at 88.9 WJMJ Hartford.
“Friendly Floyd” Wright, Curtis W. Hansen, 101.3 WKCI (KC-101) Hamden/New Haven | July 14, 1979
In honor of the late Floyd Wright, here’s a very short aircheck scope of he and Curtis W on KC-101 shortly after the station’s 1979 debut. Courtesy of Contributor Bob Gilmore.
Alan Polasky, 79 WFUN Miami | 1974
The year appears to be 1974. From contributor Alan Polasky, here’s one of his own airchecks. It’s been preserved very well, sounds just like it came from the studio skimmer machine. At under two minutes long, this sounds really good and is typical of how AM top 40 radio sounded in ’74.
Dan Walker, 1240 WWCO Waterbury CT | 1979
Contributor Angello Vecchiarelli is an archivist of Waterbury and Naugatuck Valley radio stations. There is a page for Waterbury area stations on Facebook which includes WATR, WNVR, WNAQ and WWCO. Look it up if you’re interested in Waterbury area radio. Here’s one that our Contributor sent in over a year ago. It’s very short, but then…
Dan Ingram and Bob Shannon, 101.1 WCBS-FM | March 9, 1996 – Part 1
Here’s part one of the Dan Ingram aircheck from 3/9/96. About 16 minutes in, you’ll hear Dan’s trademarked signoff featuring “Tri-Fi Drums”, a cut Ingram began using some 35 years prior at 77 WABC. Then the clip moves into Bob Shannon, who mentions that he will be filling in for Norm N. Nite that evening.…
