It’s interesting that this station has the same call-;etters as a station in Dayton, Ohio (WONE – 960 AM) although the announcer keeps saying “W-ONE” and it is emphasized that this is an FM station.
This announcer is my father actually. He worked for many radio stations, including ones in Paris, Texas and ones in Charlestown,SC.
I’m WONE/Akron OH’s current program director and one of the original air-staffers. When the station signed on in 1985, we were one of 8 stations in the Group One chain. One of the combos we owned was in Dayton, OH. They were WONE-AM and WTUE-FM. When ownership changed in late ’86/early ’87, we were allowed to keep the calls and still have them today. Brett Summers was a smooth jock on air and a great face to put out in the bars. Still run into him from time to time locally. This is a fun aircheck for me to hear again. Thanks for posting.
