WAMO FM 106 Pittsburgh – Brother Love Ken Reeth – March 1968
In 1956, AM 860 WAMO, launched an R&B format to serve Pittsburgh’s African American community. WAMO picked up an FM simulcast in 1960. The full time AM/FM simulcast lasted until the late 1960s, when the AM continued to crank out the R&B hits, while the FM did R&B, Talk, Oldies, and even Underground Rock. Over time, WAMO-FM became an Urban Contemporary station, while WAMO AM specialized in Black news, talk, classic soul music and gospel music. After a station sale in 2009, WAMO AM flipped to a religious format, and WAMO-FM’s calls moved up and down the dial, from 105,9, to 106.7, to 100.1 to 107.3.
