“Today’s 93.1 FM” WPAT Patterson NJ

First, let me share a quick memory. Around the time this was recorded, perhaps earlier, I was driving down the NJTP, headed back to Norfolk, VA. The radio in my Buick Skyhawk was a Delco AM Stereo model, which had one problem with it. The FM Stereo mode burnt out. As in, FM would play in mono. Out of sheer irony, the AM side was superior, and for stations that were in AM Stereo, simply phenomenal. WPAT (AM) 930 was in AM Stereo. I mention this for those who are unaware that this was the case, or for those who forgot. WPAT was an AM/FM simulcast for much of the 80s and when I needed to listen to something soothing, instead of my normal fare of Whitesnake or Van Halen, I did go to WPAT. Usually when I was suffering one of my frequent blinding migraines. I told you that, just to go to the old...

Dan Ingram, WCBS-FM 101.1 New York | June 30, 2002; 1-3 PM

Please scroll below the player and read an important message Honestly now… what do I write about the world’s best disc jockey that hasn’t already been said? He’s the greatest ever. Period. Listen to this nicely scoped aircheck and you’ll hear why. Furthermore, if you want to laugh, really belly laugh, Dan Ingram‘s one-liners are REALLY funny on this particular day! The honored group of the day is people who have kooky fantasies! Don’t ask, just listen! Word of the day: Conglutenate. And of course Ingram has at least half a dozen different definitions (probably only one of which is listed in Webster’s Dictionary). Ingram is so funny this day that you can actually hear his engineer laughing in the background! This is where I stop talking and th...

Bobby Jay and the Top Hits of 1958, WCBS-FM New York | 1991

Date of Recording: 1991 (Exact Date Unknown) Station: 101.1 WCBS-FM New York, New York, USA Format: Oldies (1950s, 1960s & 1970s) Featured Air Personality: Bobby Jay Contributor: Ray Bozzanca Airchexx Entry: 457 Curator’s Notes: Update – 10/23/2017: It’s been more than a decade since this aircheck first appeared on Airchexx.com and returning this brought back a few memories. First, I met Bobby Jay at the Flemington NJ studio’s of radiomaxmusic.com, where Jay, former jock Bob Shannon (Don Bombard) and I performed jock duties at different times. Bobby Jay intimately knows the Do-Wop era and music, being a part of the group, “The Teenagers” (of Frankie Lymon fame). His programs from the Do-Wop era were legendary on WCBS-FM 101.1 in it’s longtime ...

Bill Houston, WHLI Hempstead/Garden City NY | 1995

Date of Recording: 1995 (Exact Date Unknown) Station: 1100 WHLI Hempstead (Garden City) New York, USA Format: Oldies/Nostalgia Featured Air Personality: Bill Houston Contributor: Ray Bozzanca Total Time: 23:56 Airchexx Entry: 675 Curator’s Notes: A live, AM music station in 1995? You better believe it! There were a few scattered about in the years immediately before Telcom ’96 ruined everything, and this one is very unique. Who ever heard of an oldies station that played ALL the hits? By that, I mean everything from Dean Martin and Doris Day to the Buckinghams and more! This station wasn’t shy about playing something that had a rock guitar in it back to back with a Standard vocal from the non-Rock (or Pre-Rock) era! Our contributor, Ray Bozzanca checks in with a descripti...

VM Demo Tape | 1961

Date of Recording: Unknown Station: N/A Featured Air Personality: None Contributor: Ray Bozzanca Comments: Contributor Ray Bozzanca sent in something that, while not an ‘aircheck’, probably has some historic significance. The VM website (listed below) states: ““A V-M Product” and “The Voice of Music” are the brand names of quality audio products (record players, tape recorders, tube and solid state amplifiers, consoles) manufactured from 1944 until 1977 by the V-M Corporation of Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA” Well, that gives us some insight. Meanwhile, Bozzanca writes: I found a site on the company that made my first reel to reel tape recorder, a VM voice of music. But in talking about old browsers being able to work, they have something at the bottom of the web pag...

Date of Recording: 1992 (Exact Date Unknown) Station: 92.1 WLNG Sag Harbor, New York, USA Format: Full-Service Oldies Featured Air Personality: Bill Houston Contributor: Ray Bozzanca Comments: Contributor Ray Bozzanca says this is his friend Bill Houston – Ray is heard at the front of this aircheck on the phone with Houston during this 1992 broadcast. Ray writes: …at the beginning of this aircheck I pretended to be a caller named Bob, like you the first time you D-Jayed I was nervous as hell! I was more interested in technical workings behind the scene of radio than on-air,but later in 1998 Bill got me as the so called side kick for the internet but I did get over my on air shyness so to speak. He’s right on about the shyness.. your webmaster’s first day on the air,...

(1)) We interrupt this program because of a local weather emergency. This is NOT a test! Comments: With that statement and EBS tones, (at 38 minutes in) the whole tone of this FRIGHTFULLY GREAT aircheck is set in stone! This has to be the best Haloween special I’ve ever heard. WCBS-FM really did it up right, letting John Zacherle take over the hosting duties for a night of scary fun. Contributor Ray...
