Howard Stern with Don Imus on 66 WNBC New York | 1983

660 New York WNBC 1977

66 WNBC’s format from 1983 to 1987 was one of the most entertaining and best all-around radio that may have ever done in New York. Perhaps anywhere. You got music, information, & laughter. This is what radio was SUPPOSED to be like, and WNBC actually got it right! You had personalities like Soupy Sales, Alan Comes, Joey Reynolds, Wolfman Jack, and of course, Don Imus & Howard Stern. The feud between Stern & Imus became legendary, and went on for decades. However, there was a time when Stern was new to New York radio, and he actually got along with Imus. In fact, Imus was a regular guest on the Stern show in the first year or two. There were even times Imus was actually live in the studio with Howard. This air check from 1983 shows the camaraderie between Don & Howard. It also includes Howard’s early show open & theme song by The Double “O” Zeros, a punk band, who were fans of the Stern show. (I recorded this show from Hammonton New Jersey, about 140 miles from new York City, so audio quality is less than perfect, but listenable.) -Ellis
