Radio Station: Golden Oldies 56 WFIL Philadelphia

Frequency: 560 kHZ

format: Country / Oldies

WFIL was one of the big powerhouse radio stations of the 1960s & 70s in Philadelphia. In the 1970s, as listeners migrated to FM, WFIL was losing listeners. The station changed to Adult Contemporary, then Country, but they still could not attract listeners to the station. By September 1983, management decided to try something new, and flipped to oldies. For a while, the oldies format held it’s own. This aircheck features the launch & first hour of the new Golden Oldies 56 WFIL, with Jim Nettelton. -Ellis
