Curator’s Notes:

Here’s another I really hated to have to scope down. If there was ever a “golden era” at PRO-FM this would be it! Here’s where the station had been in the format long enough to really blossom into a massive Top 40 station with a huge following. It’s never left the Top 40/CHR arena, although these days it’s just another CHR that sounds like all the other CHR’s in the country. But in 1981? Here’s one that’ll make you go Oh, wow….!

Oh… check out the Top of the Hour when the jocks change. Holy moly, Batman!…

Great aircheck!! I grew up in Providence and Pro-FM rode a huge wave, well into the 90’s, by keeping their jingles fresh. It never lost that upbeat, exciting vibe while always playing “today’s hit music”!!

Thanks for the flashback. Post more if you have ‘em.

  2. Now, here’s the story on how I came to love and respect this station. I grew up in north-central Massachusetts. The little town of Orange. It mainly faced to the east-southeast and PRO-FM (along with WPJB JB 105) came in quite well. Of course, on the other side of the hill in town over by Lake Mattawa, you picked up WFLY Troy NY… I digress.

PRO-FM was incredible. Probably the hottest sounding Top 40 station I ever heard up to that time. I was 17 years old and this was the prime of my radio listening life up through the late 80s.
