New Contributor Russ Horton sent in a high quality unscoped recording of Classic Hits formatted 590 CKEY. Branded “Key 590”, the Classic Hits format was barely invented, in fact, CKEY is not doing what the original Classic Hits format started out as in the United States – as a mainline 1970s hits station. CKEY played a wide range of music from the 60s through then current songs.
This is Morning Drive. “The Breakfast Club”, which, for a music station, featured all the elements you’d find on a current day News/Talk outlet. Full News, Traffic, Sports and Weather reports. Contests. Even Commentary. All this within the scope of a music format. Perhaps this was the very best things got on the AM Dial. Remember, this was in 1988, and in the United States, AM music stations were essentially dead entities. Toronto in this time period had TWO. Listen for yourself and discover just how good this station really was.
