Jonathan Schwartz was a well-known and popular New York City radio personality, probably best known for his work on WNEW 1130. While Schwartz did play progressive rock on WNEW-FM 1967-1976, his first love was Jazz and American Standards. His work in the Progressive Rock format is largely lost to time, as there are very few airchecks of him on WNEW-FM available anywhere. After WNEW, Schwartz was heard on 1560 WQEW (the former Classical outlet WQXR, later Family Radio WFME. Now silent), WNYC 820/93.9 and SiriusXM’s “Seriusly Sinatra” channel.
In 2017, Schwartz was fired from WNYC over misconduct allegations. You can read about that at Wikipedia which quotes the sources. We won’t get into that here, as this site exists to showcase the work of the personalities, not their personal issues.
Schwartz worked with such well-known NYC personalities as Ted Brown (WNBC) and Gene Klavan.
The audio quality here is superb. This was recorded off the air and if you listen closely you can hear some faint electrical static far in the background. That’s all the noise on this tape!
