WYNY 97 New York – Larry Kenny (FIRST SHOW) – September 3, 1979
WYNY 97 Had a decade run as an AC in New York from 1977 to 1987. It’s was a very successful in the late 70s & early 80s.
The station dropped it’s all news service on January 1, 1977, and became a soft AC format on 97.1 as Y97 WYNY. The station evolved, as the station moved in a MOR direction, dropping the Y97, and into New York 97 Into the 80s the station started calling itself 97 WYNY and became more contemporary & upbeat. WYNY was a well produced station. Programming was good. Solid station.
This recording features brand new morning guy, Larry Kenny, who had just joined WYNY, from 1050 WHN. Kenny was know for doing many character voices, which is probably why today he is a voice actor, doing voices for cartoon characters. The aircheck opens with Rick Hunter, handing off to Larry. You’ll also hear Jack Welby with WYNY news. -Ellis
