10/7/92 happens to be a Wednesday… a fact Scott Shannon points out right at the beginning of this high quality aircheck donated by Robyn Watts from her collection of tapes from California Aircheck. This one is from tape #152. We’ll give a plug to CA a bit further down by their request.
The current WCBS-FM Morning man sounds a bit different on this tape than his more recent stuff. Part of that could be, first, that the tape is just a TAD slow. It makes all the difference sometimes, and with this temporary setup here at Airchexx, I can’t use all the tools at my disposal to fix the pitch without crashing this laptop. We will fix sometime down the road. Second, notice how Scott Shannon’s voice is good and strong here. Scott must be showing his age a bit these days, he sounds hoarse and his voice raspy (likely from the millions of radio station liners he’s read over the years!)
The highlights of this show are…
Today’s the first day of Yom Kippur. The guys make note of city closings et al…
Listen for Letterman’s Top 10 list. Today’s theme: The top 10 reasons why Sinead O’Connor won’t date the Pope!
Ross Perot had been on television the previous night, with a 30 minute paid campaign program on TV. Now, perhaps you remember this TV special, complete with more charts and graphs as to why HE should be president instead of George H. W. Bush… I had to think about it for a minute, but yes, I remember! The Chickenman was on right before the baseball playoffs, although I can’t remember without looking it up who was playing. Its out there. At any rate, Scott & Todd to a great parody of Ross Perot and his squeaky little voice (but nothing like the 1996 Presidential Debate skit done by Steve “Doc” Weldon and Terrence McKeever at KOUL Corpus Christi… now I’ve got to dig THAT one out!).
Carrie Griffith is the WPLJ News Lady… She’s heard in a scoped newscast right at the end of this aircheck!
I’ll send this out to my brother, Mike Sawyer of Boonton, NJ. Its his birthday today!
You can find this aircheck for online purchase (somewhere), at californiaaircheck.com! The indexing system used on this cassette is similar to what it is online today, but its all categorized differently. Poke around the website and if need be, contact the site owner. Reference tape # 152, Side One, Cut 2. And remember, tell them you heard about them right here at Airchexx.com!
