There are some things for which no words can adequately describe. WCBS NewsRadio 880 served the Tri-State area of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey with news and information – including the most comprehensive weather coverage of any radio station in New York.
Last week, I read in a certain publication, that WCBS 880 was the 3rd highest billing station in the U.S.. Whether that’s true or not, I’ll leave it to someone to verify in the comments.
I saw the ratings, and, sure enough, WCBS was listed far beneath that of its sister News outlet, 1010 WINS on 92.3 FM (WINS-FM).
I could write all sorts of stats, a glowing report on what WCBS 880 meant to me, as my Go-To news source – above all television & cable outlets, and so on… but I’ll leave that to a coming-soon giant production here on Airchexx. For now, I’ll let you hear the end of WCBS at Midnight, Monday, August 26, 2024, and the unceremonious start of ESPN programming after a full minute of dead air.
I’ll say it now. The staff and management of WCBS went out in style. On top of their game, with their heads held high. Thank you. All of you. We are all better off having listened to you over the years.
