The Sunday Funnies were aired on many AOR, Progressive and the evolving Active Rock stations of the mid-80s. CHUM-FM, if you believe the wikipedia version of history of CHUM-FM, was evolving from Album Rock to Adult Contemporary (somehow, this doesn’t make much sense, since the two formats were as far apart as Summer is to Winter, but that’s how its written). We invite listeners to CHUM-FM in the Mid-80s to set the record straight. I get the impression, based upon the ads heard in the stop sets between segments, that CHUM-FM was still solidly in the Album Rock format here.
This aircheck will certainly evoke some great memories! As I remember hearing this show, the Rock stations that aired it did so late Sunday nights, around 10 PM. I’d guess this might be the case with CHUM-FM as well.
Listen for some great comedians, including Bill Cosby, Don Adams (remember “Get Smart”), more. Its split into four segments, runs 47 minutes.
Thank you for this!!!! Andrew-Toronto
I was not a fan of the CHUM playlist back in the mid-late 80’s, I preferred listening to the mighty Q107 but I did turn the dial to CHUM every Sunday night to listen to the funnies and they were followed by the old time radio program Theatre of the mind. Great memories!
