This was a monster Alternative Rock station in the Charleston SC area. Known as 96 Wave FM, WAVF was the station that brought so many rock artists to the area. This aircheck is from 1996, during a time period where the station was doing exceptionally well in it’s own demo, but 96 Wave always suffered from being in a market that did much better overall with Urban and CHR formats.
This particular broadcast, the station is live at a club downtown Charleston, back when remote broadcasts, really were, live. The aircheck runs 45 mintues, unscoped, but as always, we have to take just about all the music out to comply with copyright law. Still, you get a feel for what a Friday night sounded like here.
