770 New York WABC

This is kind of a bittersweet aircheck. It’s from the final week of MusicRadio 77 WABC. At this point in WABC’s history, you can feel the changes coming to the station. You had a sports talk show in the evening, Alan Colmes, who would soon become the station’s morning host, doing talk overnight, and even in morning drive where Ross & Wilson were doing a lot of talk, and only playing a few songs an hour. Musically in this era, WABC was really an Adult Contemporary station, rather than a true Top 40 station, as they were playing lots of music from the 1960s & 70s, especially on the weekend. Ingram sounds great as always, but he has a different energy than in years past. He sounds more mellow, with a less intense on air delivery. Many listeners came back to WABC to listen during it’s final days, as the station had some of the best ratings in years.
