The legacy of 1520 KOMA is firmly etched into the hearts and minds of those born between 1962 and 1984. Yep. Those baby-boomers sure had great taste in music, AND a love of the old Top 40 format which back then, resided completely on the AM band.
With that in mind, close your eyes and think back to where you were when you first heard KOMA. Then remember the small nuances of this station. What were you doing at this time? How did KOMA help you release it? Those are the questions people generally ask me when it comes to airchecks.
This tape was mastered by Contributor Bob Jones. Bob had inserted all the music with clean CD versions and all that’s nice, except it’s not authentic. It also places our website in direct violation of the DCMA regulations. So I’ve had to re-edit. Cleaned up the muddy sound quality a bit (although you still feel that tape hiss) and did some dynamic boosting. I think it sounds as good as it’s going to get.
You’ll be listening to Don McGregor on KOMA way back in the beginning of 1964. KOMA was always ahead of the curve, so it seems and they were using PAMS jingles as far back as 1/5/64!
This is a rare treat of those who remember, and for those who want to know what KOMA sounded like all those years ago!

ha! Yes I got the digits twisted around. I know who the onsite DCMA is where I work. Good catch!
KOMA was one of the great Storz stations, along with WQAM, Miami, WTIX in New Orleans, WHB, Kansas City, KXOK, St. Louis, and WDGY, Minneapolis. They all were personality oriented, letting the jocks personalities shine through. Clearly, these were some of the best top 40 stations out there.
