L.A. Top 40 Radio Composite | February, 1983

Included in a box of goodies from Contributor Nancy Plum (KRTH/KTNQ) was this fairly short composite that opens up with one of our most requested jocks – Big Ron O’Brien on 102.7 KIIS-FM. And while it’s pretty short overall, the opening segment with Big Ron and the sample of Kiss-FM in February 1983 is worth just a few minutes of your time by itself!

At 2 minutes in, more proof that CHR radio was so much different in 1983 than now. After all, a current-music station playing a song from the early 70s? “Long Cool Woman” by The Hollies seems so out of place on Kiss-FM… but it was a different radio world back then.

One break from then-Adult Contemporary formatted K-Earth 101 and a few breaks from KIQQ. Airchecks from KIQQ seem to be somewhat rare, outside of a few 1970s clips when the station called itself K-100.
