WYNY 97 had a decade run as an AC in New York from 1977 to 1987. It’s was a pretty successful in the late 70s & early 80s.
The station dropped it’s national NIS all news service on January 1, 1977, and became a soft AC format on 97.1 as Y 97 WYNY. The station evolved, as the station moved in a MOR direction, dropping the Y97, and into New York 97.
Into the 80s the station started calling itself 97 WYNY and became more contemporary & upbeat. WYNY was a well produced station. Programming was good. Solid station. This aircheck features Mitch Lebe on air from 1977. Lebe would eventually move to NBC Radio News. -Ellis
