NYC/Hudson Valley Composite, 1975-1977

Courtesy of longtime Contributor Alan Fletcher, here’s a composite of AM and FM stations in New York City and the Hudson Valley region. It spans a time period from sometime in 1975 to 1977.

There’s so much packed into this 30 or so minutes of assorted audio its difficult to write all of it here, but the highlights include a severe weather outbreak (listen for continuous static crashes on the early WABC clips and DJ Steve O’Brien announcing a severe thunderstorm warning), WNBC signing on after being off for four hours of maintenance, announcements of Beacon/Newburgh 1976 Bicentennial celebration events. Lots of smaller market stations of importance in the Hudson valley including WSPK “10-47” (Today’s CHR “K-104.7”), 1340 WALL, and others. NYC stations represented include ABC & NBC, along with WXLO 99X, WPIX 102, ‘Beautiful Music’ 93.1 WPAT Patterson NJ and more. Note that WVNR (AM) simulcast with WSPK-FM during the day. At night, WSPK continued live until WVNR returned to the air in the morning. And in a very unique way of identifying, WSPK called itself “10-47”, which by itself sounds like the time sung to a jingle!

Enjoy this slice of radio, presented in a way that will give the listener an historically accurate view of the state of radio in the mid 1970s.
