Old Gold 1971 Remastered, Part 1 of 4

Going WAY back to the beginning of this website – well, okay, WAY back to the days when the radio industry trade circulated audio specials on vynl, here’s a completely re-mastered copy of one of the very first exhibits we had on airchexx way back in 2002! Old Gold was actually a vynl print – well, one could find it on vynl and on cassette in later years. The original copy we had obtained was on a worn out cassette and very muffled, but back then we were happy to post anything.

Now, taken right from the record itself, a copy of Old Gold 1971. I’m posting this in four parts for easier listening. Beware, the vynl skips about 3 minutes in, during the WWDJ aircheck.. but not badly.

Contained in this segment, in this order:

WFIL Philadelphia – Dan Donovan
KTSA San Antonio
WAPE Jacksonville – Larry Dixon
WWDJ Hackensack NJ (97/DJ) – Bwana Johnny

In case anyone ever wondered, where did Pete Salant get the idea for 9 (Nine) NEIN – ok whatever you wanna call it – it was 97/DJ!

WRIT Milwaukee – Robert Allen
WRKO Boston – Tom Kennedy
WOHO Toldedo – Norm Davis
KJR Seattle – Norm Gregory
WCUE Cuyahoga Falls OH
KMEN Sacramento – Scott (Scooter) Seagraves
WDRC Hartford – Bob Craig
WKBW Buffalo – Don Berns

Parts 2, 3 and 4 will post soon, time permitting.

I often wondered why I was not as impressed as others when I first heard the Pound Ridge station. I remember 97 WWDJ back when they were the former WJRZ as the flagship for Mets Baseball and followed them through the metamorphose from Country to Top 40 and their “Chipmunk” records of Cher.

Jeff, some of WJRZ’s country jocks went to New York City’s WHN, which some say was the top country station of all time. Also, at 1:30, heard a WSAI ‘check, though it wasn’t one of the stations listed.

This was all from an LP released by Shelby Singleton in mid 1971 called “Bootleg Top 40” – Volume I. Plain white LP cover with the title stamped on it. Distributed to Program Directors at Top 40 stations around the country back in ’71…
