Description by Contributor Jose Harrison:

.. This specialty weekend (which began at 12 noon on Friday) involved all the songs that peaked at #2 (Runner’s Up) in Los Angeles from 1956 to 1979. It aired the weekend before Labor Day Weekend, every year in the mid 80’s until it was unfortunately discontinued after 1988. In 1984 and 1985, music was played to the current year. From the Years 1958 to 1965, K-Earth 101 utilized the KFWB radio surveys. From 1965 to mid 1977, the Boss 30 (KHJ) surveys were used. From mid 1977 to 1985, KRTH used their own radio surveys. This same manner was used in the following weekend (Labor Day) for the Number One Music Weekend, which also was discontinued after ’88. The #1’s actually began in 1955 and was considered a Southern California music special tradition.

It is unknown which survey was used prior to 1958 on either special.

  1. Thanks Steve…Sounds fabulous! KRTH was incredible back in the 80’s. Wish it was the same today.
