CKWX & CFUN broadcasting legend Red Robinson retires after 30 years. This is full of surprise in studio and call in guests as the broadcast community of Western Canada and the Northwest US say farewell.
Robinson was allowed to break format on this Country music station and play a lot of the 1950s music that he played when he began his broadcasting career in 1954 at CKWX.
Red Robinson is still a legend around these parts (Vancouver). In 1993, the “Red Head” returned to radio, hosting the CISL Wake-Up Club for 7 years, before retiring from the show on November 8, 2000 (ironically the same date on which he began his radio career back in 1954)! Red still hosts “The Red Rock Diner”, a six-hour sunday morning show on Vancouver’s Fun FM. In 1995, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You can learn more at his web site, //www.redrobinson.com. SIDENOTE: Red emceed the Beatles’ only Vancouver appearance in August of 1964. As a result of the unruley crowd, Red was given the dubious task of coming on-stage to ask John Lenin to stop playing. Lenin did, but not after cursing him with the f-bomb!
Lennon for John Lennon – not Lenin as in the communist
